The Geelong Cup

Last Wednesday marked a special day in my calendar, Geelong Cup Day. (Geelong is where i live) When else can you sleep in hair rollers, wake up at 6am to have your makeup done, and be having champagne breakfast at 8am?All this and don't forget it's a Wednesday morning!

Melbourne loves the Spring Racing Carnival, and i must admit that there is something about the smell of fresh cut grass, roses, perfume and champagne that mixes into an enticing smell and invigorates your soul. Well, that sounds pretty full of crap but let's just say i was rapt to have a day off work mid-week to drink champagne all day.

We started at a friend's house, 8 girls dressed in heels, dresses and hats. Nevermind that it was the windiest day in quite awhile and we all ended up wearing half length stockings under the dresses to keep embarrassing moments to the mimimum. By lunch time we were proudly sitting (or collapsing) on the picnic blanket at the feet of many others, and instead of consuming a wholly liquid lunch, we added fries to the diet.

We didn't watch one race, although my boy put some bets on for me. As far as i know, we didn't win a thing though. By 4 pm we gathered ourselves, kicked off our heels and trekked 3 blocks to find a cab. From then on we peeled off home one by one. I made it through nachos at the pub, several more drinks, and entered the after party at our favorite club at 7pm. By 9 i was being picked up out the front by the boy, and was sound asleep by 9:20.

Work on Thursday dragged on and on and i had a headache that matched my 'smokey' eyes. Next year, i invite you all to join my friends and I at the Geelong Cup! Should i post some photos?
