The B.@.Dsessions III: Choices

A year back, when we we're on the boat, I was telling B.@.D about a situation I had been in where I wished I could have gone back and changed a choice that I had made. I'll never forget what he said to me:

"Everybody has choices. With any choice comes the possibility of a mistake. With some of those mistakes can come regret. With some people, a lot of regrets. But I think the true test of any choice is to put yourself back in that position, and asking yourself if you would make that choice again, knowing what you knew THEN, not now. Any monkey can go back and make the right choice knowing what the future of that choice will be."

When asked about that recently, he was surprised that I remembered that, he said he barely remembered saying it himself.

"I don't think I have a lot of choices that I regret. Certainly I have some, but I think of every signifigant decision I have ever made, and knowing what I know, I don't think that I would change them with what I knew at the time. Of course there are a few... everyone has a few. But I think if everyone would remember that they can't make the right decision every time without knowing the future, a lot of people would have less regrets."

B.@.D is an extremely well-adjusted individual. So many people I find, especially our age, regret the past or some part of it. But for B.@.D, certainly there are situations he wishes he could change... but that's about it.

For me, that was inspirational, and I thought it would be to other people. I try to remember this no matter what's going on or what my regrets are, and I pass it along to whoever I can. I hope you guys like.
