The B.@.Dsessions: Session I

"Here's the thing. It was never supposed to work."

When I first asked him about the website after we decided we'd be doing this, this is his response.

B.@.D designed this site to be a window to talk to his friends, because he was in school full time, he was working, basically full-time, and he had a full-time girlfriend, who, if you ask him about, he will tell you with a smirk that she was full-time too.

So how did it become popular?
"I have no idea." he says with a smile.

He actually does. B.@.D LiveJournal was passed by a few people in his classes who knew about it and liked some of the humor and issues around to some classmates. They, in turn, passed it to some other friends. Then those freinds passed it to some other friends. And it kept going.

Today, the site that I find myself writing on has had nearly 7 million hits. Not the hit size of E-bay or anything like that, but for a blog? Pretty astronomical. Blogger, which is the leading provider of blogs worldwide, still hails B.@.D LiveJournal as one of it's 100 most popular sites.

I first met B.@.D on a houseboat through a mutual friend years ago. A lot of the other guys on the trip we're good guys, just not good... conversation material. A few of them on the boat B.@.D had never even met before, but they already had read the site and we're given it through our mutual friend. B.@.D thought that this was pretty funny.

We struck up a good friendship, and eventually started using each other as an excuse to avoid two other people who wouldn't leave us alone. We struck up an immiedate repoire, and got to know each other pretty well. To put it simply, we became friends.

I immediately found B.@.D to be one of the most interesting people I know. He's incredibly open. I like that in a person because I like to get to know them. I'm interested in what makes them the way they are.

After we got back from the trip, I started reading B.@.D LiveJournal. Even the old posts. I loved it. I've been a reader ever since.

The thing that strikes me as the most riveting is that I don't think most of the readers of this site think that B.@.D LiveJournal is a website. It is a man's life... his real life. It's how it is. It takes a real person to know that B.@.D and the friend that I know are the same person. And I defy anyone to draw that line where website personality ends and the man begins... or vice versa.

The friendship that we've had since then has been great, and I'm glad to be writing here about one of the most interesting individuals I've had the pleasure of knowing. Hopefully I'll be able to provide a little bit of insight into the man you've come to know over the past few years.

As B.@.D eluded to, this is going to be me... getting to the bottom of him. Seeing what makes him be him. His past, his future, his thoughts, his hopes, his dreams.

I will not be in The B.@.Dsaga nor will I be going past this season in terms of writing for this site.

I love B.@.D like a big brother, but this is going to be honest. I welcome all comments, criticism, and insight of your own, from fans or friends or from the man himself. Thanks for letting me do this, B.@.D. I think it'll be a lot of fun, and I might even turn it into a project for school!

You'll hear from me soon,
J@de

Well with words like repoire this should be really intelligent.

How about rapport.

I can't wait to read about the half thought up mismatch comparisons between him and the clinical examples your teacher(s) mistakenly loaded you with to give you the impression that you are somewhat capable of deciphering one's true character.

well that guys an asshole

dont listen to him jade, spelling doesnt matter

Anonymous said...

yeah what a fucking dick, way to start someone else out on the site asshole.

BAD himself doesnt use proper spelling

Anonymous said...

That wasn't a spelling correction. Not even close, that was the entire fabrication of a word.

I wouldn't be so lame to point out spelling, or I would have noted:

1.freinds
2.immiedate

So don't make me do that again.

Ha! I like this AU Star!

7 million hits? Not a chance, someone is blowing something up everyone's ass with that one. Maybe Blogger.com has that many, but this dude? Never. If you think this one has more hits than something like Little Green Footballs, you're dumber than dirt.

Anonymous said...

wahts little green footballs?

Anonymous said...

try loading and reloading the site then and see what happens. counter goes up. duh.

Anonymous said...

little green footballs? wtf?

Anonymous said...

so who are you two assholes exactly?

TO OTHER COMMENTER (NOT AU STAR)
Do some research. Blogger.com gets billions and billions of hits. And the counter has been up for over a year now and it goes up about 100 a day. You can check that if you like.

TO AU STAR:
Shouldn't you wait to see what she has to say before you condemn her?

Wait to see what she says? I did, I read an entire post. And so I commented as it said I was free to do. No harm no foul.

Don't be a festisio.

Hey,

Don't worry about it, you guys! It's no big deal. I'm just excited that there's this much interest / debate about it.

AU Star, surely you must agree that there are more important things than spelling. B.@.D would agree with that. Are you a B.@.D fan?

Anyways, hopefully once I actually start writing my thoughts and insights on B.@.D you will give it a chance. That's all I ask. And if not, then hey, I can't please anyone, right? I'm not going to pretend that everyone will like this. Maybe no one will. Oh well, at least I'll have fun.

I'll be back with the first post soon! Thanks for reading everyone!

well said JADE!

Jade, you couldn't be more right. There are things more important then spelling, and I'm not going to pick apart spelling because that is lame.(read my second comment.)

I was just commenting on the fabrication of the word repoire. That's not a spelling thing, there's no word close to that. It's no huge issue, I was just using it as a precursor, to how this was going to be.

More importantly how an under qualified person was likely to regurgitate clinical issues as if they were b.a.d's.

I'm a huge fan of his, I've been reading this since before you went house boating with him.

But we are all thinking as we read this, that this is going to be like those times when we had a friend who read a psychology text book and started diagnosing everyone. Like a first or second year nurse student thinking people are having a stroke when really it's just heat exhaustion or the common cold. Believe me, I've seen it.

Anyway, do share with us, the abundance of issues discussed in your classes. This should be like a case of cyberchondria.

All right, let us work through some simple math, shall we? If you really think this site has had 7 million hits let us figure this out together. I'll go slow. First, we will pretend that the site has been running for five years, to make it easy for you. That would mean an average of 1.4 million hits per year. That 1.4 could be reached if there were 3,835 per day. If you assume 18 hours a day of people pouring over the BAD site, that would be 213 an hour or 3.5 readers per second. So the little dude that suggested there were a hundred hits a day has a bit of a problem.

BAD is counting all of blogger.com's hits as his own, end of story.

And you kids do not know the LGF site? Oh right, you pretend you get your news from Jon Stewart and the Colbert Report, and, well, the Simpsons and Family Guy.

Good Lord, what will happen to the world???

AU Star - Please don't speak for everyone... I for one, do not share your opinion, and don't appreciate being lumped in with your crowd.

You have your opinions, and you're entitled to them, fair enough. However I feel the need to point something out to you.

J@DE wrote the word "repoire". You corrected her with "rapport". Whether or not you believe it to be a spelling mistake is irrelevant. You DID know the word she was TRYING to write, didn't you? Of course you did!

B-Rush's opinion: if the word is close enough to know what the real word is... who gives a fuck how it's spelt?

We're not in the classroom right now, or at work, this is only FUN, and therefore there's really no point in editing, or worrying about our spelling, grammer, or political correctness. I'm quite sure if any of us were writing something for school OR work, we'd run something called, "spell check" before handing it to our teacher/boss. Here? We just don't care enough.

Anonymous said...

b-rush,

You couldn't be so lucky as to be lumped into my crowd.

But more importantly, the whole point I was making has been molested. I was talking about making up a word. (read: fabrication). The FACT that I knew it was rapport was quite simply because I know the definition of the word, and the context she was using it in was ideal for that word.

There could have been a picture of an elephant and I would have known what the word should have been.

But the point wasn't the word, the point was how it was a precursor for things to come.

*GIANT ELEPHANT* -you for taking the time to write back to me. Your *GIANT ELEPHANT* is appreciated.

COUNTER:
People have been ragging on the counter forever. I stopped fighting or proving it to people a long time ago. all i know is I put up a counter on the site with some HTML i got from Google. End of story. If it's incorrect or inaccurate, then really, what do I care? What I don't know about HTML could fill a library so if it's inaccurate, then so be it.

And, if you had been reading J@de's post or paying attention, you would know that I didn't start the site for hits, nor do I continue it for that reason. I do this for me.

Of course, as I've said to a million other detractors, if you don't like it, you could just not read it.

(By the way, every time you click on the site to argue the point, you're increasing traffic, so by all means, continue. It doesn't bother me.)

AU STAR:
I'm with B-Rush.

But J@de has told me she's looking forward to your reaction to a post she will actually write, and hopes she can prove you wrong about your pre-cognitions about her. Maybe you'll like it, maybe you won't. Give it a chance though. As much as the Counter Police don't bother me, I can assure you, the criticism does not bother her.

You just need to chill out. Have you considered a nice office job or maybe getting a gun permit?

Anonymous said...

Your with B-rush that it was spelling? I already went over that.

You know that you are thinking the same thing as I b.a.d so you're part of my lump. And somewhat responsible. I'm kidding.

But I can't wait to read more.

Has anyone researched cyberchondria? It's quite fascinating. Not the same as Jade's approach, but this would be interesting for someone to do.

Yeah and i know it's a bit late, but don't lump me in there either - i for one am glad that there is another female to balance up the B@D team...

I am also wondering whether using the name AU Star indicates that you are Australian? I will be interested if it does...

good question... GP JADE, i look forward to the posts

The reality is that there's only one person NOT looking forward to them... who's spoken out at least... so big deal.

J@de did you get the idea for the "@" in your name from B.@.D?

J@de said...

Nope I didn't, he got it from me actually.

J@de said...

PS: Thank you Ozi-Style, B-Rush, and B.@.D! And everyone else who's stuck up and/or are looking forward. I am too. But like I said, don't worry about it. I'll rely on what I write to try and win the few of them over.

I'm disapointed Mizzle hasn't chimed in in defense of AU Star, usually he's a ghost but when something happens he's like B.@.D or Batman, he comes in and gives his 2 cents and silences people lol.

Anonymous said...

Ozi you also couldn't be so lucky to be lumped in my crowd, and bet you would try to be if given the chance.

But anyway, I wasn't saying I was or wasn't looking forward to it, just that it should be intelligent.

We were all thinking, don't even act like you weren't.

Ozi, I thought the same thing about jade using AU & being Australian!

Anonymous said...

But do u notice that this piss weak person writes under 'anonymous'....if he had any balls at all he would tell us who he is! Until then, his comment mean fuck all as Im sure he wouldnt have the courage to say it under his name!

Anonymous said...

true that

and jade you must be doing well, 33 comments are more than most posts get!

Mary and Craig said...

Ha... keep dreaming kiddo

Anonymous said...

Piss weak? I have a tag after my name so at least you could do some research on it. Give Ozi credit for trying.

Then you go and say how I write under anonymous... yet you just did the exact same? Good god, show some balls and do it yourself.

Notice how after my last comment, nobody argued the point I made? Must have been pretty dead on.

Oh, and Jade, regardless of who started using the @ in there name, believe me you weren't the first person in the world, B.a.d used it first in here, and it's his blog, so maybe get your own thing.

Mary and Craig said...

I'm not sticking up for AU Star here, but i don't like that above comment - you shouldn't pick on people cause of their NAME, that's lame... especially on-line... it makes yourself look bad not anyone else. Sorry.

Anonymous said...

where did he even say his name was ian??

Anonymous said...

Haha,

It's not actually Ian, do you think I would put my name on a blog? Haha, but anyway, I know 2 Ians... and neither of them are fat or bald... so I guess that puts you way off doesn't it.

But yeah that is pretty lame to try and identify someones physical attributes due to their name.

Thanks for having my back 100% of the way Ozi. You and I have always been there for each other.
