On a Serious Note...

Hmmmm as i write this, i have a lot on my mind. I like the fact that hardly anyone who reads this blog knows me in person, it makes being able to say things on here alot easier.

Earlier this week i got news that one of my very favorite High School teachers had died. He was youngish, had a great personality and a great family - from what i knew. I was pretty rocked that he would die so young. Today i found out that he actually ended his own life. He had depression.

I don't know the figures on depression in North America, but i do know that here in Australia, that there is an alarming number of people fighting depression. I'm sure we all know someone who has had symptoms of depression, perhaps even gotten so bad that they have taken their own life (in my case my Dad). I just feel that i need to tell as many people as i can that we all need to be able to recognise the signs and help where we can. There are so many excellent programs around the world to raise awareness and gain profile on this horrible condition.

No one deserves to feel like there's no other way out.

Phew... sorry for the heavy reading, i just can't shake the spooky feeling that while we were sitting around over Christmas laughing and having fun, some people were sitting out in the 'cold'.

Thanks.

yikes - Ozi - I can't say how sorry I am to hear it. It definately is a messed up way to go.

When I was younger - I went to St. Martin de Porres High school, several kids I knew decided it'd be a good idea to start themselves a suicide pact... it wasn't a very plesant experience at all.

There are always people to talk to here though Ozi.

Can i just add something else... i don't want any sympathy from anyone! Gosh my experience with depression ended 19 years ago, i was very little.

Over the years i have known people at school who have taken the same path... i just want to bring attention to the fact that every day there is more and more support available!
